Pomelo Records represents the legendary Viennese Techno / Electronic label run by Art Vega and Dan
Lodig and established in 1993.
Sharing a common love for Detroit Techno and exotic fruit, Art Vega, Daniel Lodig and visual artist Dextro founded Pomelo in 1993, the first release of the label being the classic Pomelo Compilation, featuring the crème of Austrian techno artists like Pulsinger & Tunakan (as iO and Daterape), Christopher Just, Gerhard Potuznik (as Flattape), and Hi-Lo, alongside international techno stars such as DJ Hell , Richie 'Acid Scout' Bartz, Abe Duque and Monika Kruse.
Alex Cortex is one of the favourites Pomelo imprint. He joined the label in 2007, and since then he has been continuously releasing 12"s to great success. New on Pomelo Records is "Unshell", a 12" which has been receiving support by the likes of Brendon Moeller, Axel Bomann, John Selway, Marco Bernardi, Lawrence and many more, - to be followed by his third full-length later this year 2011. Alex Cortez started producing in 1993 and has been DJing and playing live-gigs since 1996 in many places, touring in Germany, France, Switzerland, Hungary, Netherlands, Spain, UK, and Mexico.
In 2007, celebrating their 13th anniversary, Pomelo released a CD compilation that combined tracks from the back catalogue that had been carefully selected for home listening with 5 unreleased tracks suited for the dancefloors. Those new tracks were also released on Vinyl. Alex Cortex appears with a hypnotic electro tune, applying a vocal sample and occasionally appearing bongos. Microthol present a 36 second long acid electro slammer and Ph03, a collaborative effort between DJ Glow and Philipp Haffner from Microthol- come up with the Detroit electro inspired 'Long Distance Call'. Satanic Soul (aka. DJ Elin) delivers the only house track, in inimitable unique Elin style, while Reade Truth closes this outstanding record with the downbeat track 'Time to Accept' reminiscent of Old School NY electro funk.
In all the years of its existence, the tasty label, Pomelo introduced amazing underground DJs producers always promoting the music in advance of time.
