Bu-Mako Records represents the organic deep house label on East Coast US started by Jenifa Mayanja in 2007. Output varied and touching many genres.
Ugandan born Jenifa Mayanja has been part of the underground deep house music scene for many years. She solidified her reputation first as a music buyer at the now defunct legendary record store “Dancetracks” and then as one of the most sought after djs in New York crowning her achievements playing at the “Body and Soul party many times over.

She created and nurtured her own parties that featured her eclectic style of djing that were well received and written about in "TimeOut NY" one of those parties “Bu-mako” was the start of other creative avenues for Jenifa. Currently she runs her own imprint “Bu-mako recordings” on which her musical productions are featured, and also djs on her own radio show “The Bumako Experience’’.

The word Bumako comes from the fusion of two languages Luganda and Hebrew and the word was created originally to represent a special party in New York of the same name. From the “Bumako” party grew the “Bumako” label which has grown it own interpretation of deep house with its naturalistic mixture of a variety of genres such as jazz, world music, disco and funk to create a signature known to fans worldwide.

All the artists featured on Bumako Recordings come with their own unique interpretations of deep house, techno, soul, jazz, world music and contribute to the deep impression the label continues to make in the underground electronic music scene.

Currently Bumako Recordings is in a transformation which will showcase a select group of artists, some fresh to the scene, others quietly building a buzz but all premiere artists in their own right. Its artists for 2013 and beyond include, Irish producer Denis Clifford who produced the deeply melodic techno album “miracles of matter” on bumako, Alison Marks a soulful folksy multi-talented producer and singer from England who has been percolating under the radar for quite some time with releases on Rebirth along Helen Copnall a ridiculous good keyboard player and producer, Anastasia a spoken word artist from Greece and some new additions, Jay Mond an up and coming producer from Berlin, Sean Bird a talented producer from Ireland along with a fresh album from Jenifa Mayanja in 2014 featuring a whole sound of ideas.

Bu-Mako’s early releases were mainly Ms. Mayanja's works, later releases have featured intriguing collaborations with Lady Blacktronika, ISoul8 aka Volcov of neroli label, Kai Alce, Jus-Ed and recently Dubbyman.
