Blueprint was founded in 1996 by James Ruskin and Richard Polson who recorded the label's first release as Outline. The first few releases came in quick succession and immediately had an impact on the techno scene, during an era when dancefloor techno was suffering a drought of fresh artists. A chance meeting led to the second release on the label being Oliver Ho's debut.
Since then the artist roster has been largely centred around the work of those 3 artists, although Polson's later contributions have been as one half of 65D Mavericks, The alongside his current production partner Nick Dunton. Surgeon has also made an appearance.
James Ruskin is one of those stalwarts of the UK techno scene who constantly appears to be somewhat under the radar and yet deserves massive respect for his productions, djing, label and club nights. Moving on from his hip hop and electro roots, in the mid-nineties he teamed up with studio partner Richard Polson to release a number of seminal techno EPs as Outline on their jointly established Blueprint label. Despite being London based, James soon found himself identified with the Black Country techno sound being pushed by the likes of Regis (with whom he would later form a recording partnership as O/V/R) and Surgeon. Under his own name, James has released his emotive strain of shadowy dancefloor minimalism on Tresor, Ostgut Ton, Dynamic Tension and Meta, as well as Blueprint's sub-label Coda.
Quality over quantity has been the guiding principle for this London techno label over the past decade, and it has been better than ever since its relaunch in 2009, when London-based DJ/producer James Ruskin relaunched the imprint after a short hiatus. Since then, Blueprint has been releasing work at a breakneck pace from names—O/V/R, Valmay, Mark Broom—never associated with Blueprint before.
The trio were among a small collection of producers in London that were breaking free of the prevailing techno sound of the time. Underground Resistance was a huge inspiration and the lo-fi attitude was something that they was really drawn to. It was a movement that was taking hold in places throughout the UK at the time. With Ruskin and Polson teaming up in the studio under the name Outline, and Oliver Ho releasing under his own name, Blueprint soon had that aforementioned specific sound.
All in all, Blueprint represents the symbol of huge quality in Underground Techno. Mysticism, hypnotism, dark atmosphere, the best ingredients are here to provide you a real trip inside electronic music.
With an amazing developed back catalogue, Blueprint has worked with artists like: Outlie, Oliver Ho, James Ruskin, Lakker, The Fear Ratio, Valmay, David Thomas, Asia, Sigha, Mark Broom, James Young, and many many others.
