All City Dublin represents the Irish based label / hip hop beats and related founded by Olan O'Brien. All City Records is also a shop in Dublin but the name is mostly known as a label which gave beatheads a serious dose of education with their ESSENTIAL 7 x 7 series of 7"s in 2008, followed up with their 10x10 series of 10"s focusing on LA, featuring our bro Teebs among all the other heroes of that town.
When Olan O’Brien and DJ Splyce opened All City in Dublin in 2001 to sell hip-hop tunes and graffiti supplies, O’Brien knew that he also wanted to start a label. A decade on, the shop is still thriving (unlike so many of its peers), and the All City record label is really going gangbusters. "All City" sign out front is all about. Because despite Ireland's rich traditional music options, it's rare to find an authentic modern record store. It's almost as if hip-hop had never happened here. The hippest thing at most Dublin dance clubs is still Fatboy Slim.
But All City is about two things: bringing intelligent dance music from Ireland to the world, and amplifying the world's best beat releases through its own label. And All City's laserlike focus on the L.A. scene has made it one of the definitive labels chronicling Los Angeles' most exciting music.
This little shop in Dublin has put out more vinyl for L.A. beat artists than almost anybody else on the globe. Through an almost-complete series of 10 10-inch records, they've captured major L.A. magic: Daedelus, Teebs, Dibiase, Dam Funk, Take, Ras G, Tokimonsta and more.
All City Records have put out their end of year of 2013 mix courtesy of DJ Tu-ki featuring 39 tracks that made their year including the likes of MachineDrum, Madlib/Freddie Gibbs, Lapalux, Pusha T, Mano Le Tough, FKA Twigs, Frank B, Laszlo Dancehall, El-P / Killer Mike, Laurel Halo, Addison Groove, Special Request and more. It’s a solid 67 minutes of electronic, house and hip-hop. All City’s Olan O’Brien also sent on 10 releases that made his musical year in 2013.
Sublabel: 7X7 Beat, All City L.A. Series.
