Jiaolong Records represents the London-based label founded by Canadian musician and producer, Daniel Victor Snaith established in 2011.
While Canada-born, London-living genius Dan Snaith has been touring arenas all year – supporting Radiohead with his psychedelic disco-rock band Caribou – he's also had one eye focused on London’s more progressive clubs, a fraction of the size.
Increased DJ activity has led him to write harder-edged tunes specifically for his sets under his Daphni alias – which are collected on the new and very excellent ‘Jiaolong’ album.
From its humble beginnings with the theft of a sampler gathering dust in his high school’s music department, through several acclaimed albums and an absurd collision with a litigious wrestler, Dan Snaith’s (aka Caribou) musical life has followed anything but a predictable trajectory.
Snaith originally recorded under the stage name Manitoba, but after being sued by Richard “Handsome Dick” Manitoba, Snaith changed his performance name to Caribou in 2005.
As a studio project, Caribou is carried out by Snaith alone, but on tour the live band also consists of Ryan Smith, Brad Weber, and John Schmersal. More than a decade of touring across the globe has cemented Caribou’s reputation as much for being a live band as a studio project.
Snaith's newest label Jiaolong has been blurring boundaries recently with a host of essential techno/bass/house/afro/electronic records, much more dance floor orientated, for more intimate clubs / spaces according to the man himself... "..there is a small world where dance music lives up to its potential to liberate, surprise, and innovate. It’s there that I hope Daphni has a place."
