Chiwax represents the german music label established in 2011, and together with its sublabel, Chiwax Classic Edition are constantly delivering series which consists of reissues and represses of classic and oldschool chicago house release from the 1990's.
While the german imprint Chiwax is parent to Chiwax Classic Edition, it is also a subdivision of the berliner Rawax, and also sister label with Dubwax and Housewax. Rawax was build in 2011 when Robert Drewek received some fantastic demos from Unbroken Dub aka Denis Safiullin. Originally it was planed to release only his productions on the series, but a lot of good friends from Denis also sent fantastic demos, which is why Rawax became more than only one artist series and grew to be more and more recognizable and respected.
Meanwhile they received many good demos from various genres and that's when the sublabels were born: Chiwax - stands for the new interpretation of the oldschool chicago sound, Chiwax Classic Edition is their platform for re-releases from the glorious legends from chicago like K-Alexi, Derwsky, Parris Mitchell, Robert Armani & Co. Housewax is the housey side of Rawax and finally Dubwax stands for the dubby side of life.
Chiwax debuted with the first release, Steve Murphy & Co – Windy City Ep, who drops four tracky, dancefloor numbers that've got a killer analog feel to them and a groove that just gives. Nice green vinyl too to add to the appeal.
Dedicated to the sound of the original Chi-town itself, Chicago, Chi-wax returns for the the second release with East Soul Person - Minsk Ep, a deep, 80s-house influenced house winner - sounding like a long lost Master C & J track (check 'In the City') , perfect for a nighttime drive down Lakeshore Drive.
The Chiwax arm of Berlin-based label Rawax has been focusing on Kincy's material in 2013 in a series called Gemini Traxx. The most common of Spencer Kincy's many aliases, Gemini first came to attention with releases on Relief and Cajual in the mid-'90s, which established him as an equally adventurous contemporary to fellow Chicago producers like Cajmere. He was also known for his rapid-fire mixing style, which inspired many DJs, including Ben UFO, who spoke out about his admiration for Kincy in an RA feature last year.
Kincy's prolific output (which included four LPs in the span of two years) dried up at the end of the '90s, after a move to the Bay Area and reportedly strange behaviour—he's essentially been missing since.
Chiwax is the home for a variety of artists such as: Steve Murphyy, East Soul Person, Murphy Jax, Andy Vaz, Samann, Ken Kojima, Nite Vision, Perseus Traxx, Andreas Gehm, The Rhythm Odyssey, Kovyazin D, Virgo Four, amongst several others.
