Das Musikkorps der Bundeswehr vertritt als repräsentatives Konzertorchester die Streitkräfte bei herausgehobenen konzertanten Veranstaltungen im In- und Ausland. Das Musikkorps der Bundeswehr blickt auf eine fünfzigjährige musikalische Tradition zurück.
Unter seinem alten Namen ?Stabsmusikkorps der
Bundeswehr, Bonn? hat es sich nicht nur auf den großen
Konzertbühnen des Inlandes einen hervorragenden
Namen erworben, sondern auch die USA, Japan,
Afrika und fast alle Länder Westeuropas mit großem
Erfolg bereist.
Weiterhin wird das Musikkorps der Bundeswehr im
protokollarischen Ehrendienst mit Schwerpunkt Bonn
und alte Bundesländer eingesetzt.
Seit 2001 wird das Musikkorps der Bundeswehr von
Oberstleutnant Walter Ratzek geleitet. Von 1980 bis
1985 studierte er Kapellmeister, Dirigieren bei Professor
Wolfgang Trommer und Klavier in der Klasse José
Luis Prado an der Robert-Schumann-Hochschule für
Musik Düsseldorf. Anschließend war er 2. Musikoffizier
beim Gebirgsmusikkorps 8 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen,
stellvertretender Chef des Stabsmusikkorps
der Bundeswehr, Leiter des Kammerorchesters, Chef
des Heeresmusikkorps 2 in Kassel und Leiter des
Ausbildungsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr.
Als Gastdirigent nationaler wie internationaler renommierter
Orchester, Leiter von Workshops und diversen
Fortbildungsmaßnahmen ist Ratzek in der Szene
sowohl als Dirigent als auch Pianist bekannt.
Seine CD-Produktionen mit verschiedenen sinfonischen
Blasorchestern belegen sein Klangideal, das auf
einer lupenreinen Intonation, brillantem Rhythmus,
ausgeglichener Balance aufbaut und so exemplarische
künstlerische Interpretationen ermöglicht.
Ratzek ist Präsident der WASBE Sektion Deutschland.

The Concert Band of the German Armed Forces
represents the orchestra of the armed forces, especially at exquisite national and international concert performances.
The Concert Band is based on a fifty-year old tradition. In the past well known as the ?Stabsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr, Bonn?, the orchestra has been very successful throughout Germany, the USA, Japan, Africa and most of the western European countries. Further on the
Concert Band is involved in the honorary service, mainly in Bonn and former East Germany. Since 2001 the ?Concert Band of the
German Armed Forces? is lead by lieutenant colonel Walter Ratzek. Between 1980 and 1985 he studied at the Robert-Schumann-University for Music in Düsseldorf. He was taught by Prof. Wolfgang Trommer and became director of music, conductor and attended
José Luis Prado?s class of piano. After that he became 2nd music officer of the ?Gebirgsmusikkorps 8? (mountain music corps) in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, deputy chief of the ?Musikkorps der Bundeswehr?, leader of the chamber orchestra, head of the ?Heeresmusikkorps 2? in Kassel and conductor of the ?Ausbildungsmusikkorps der Bundeswehr? (educational military band).
Ratzek is well known as a conductor and pianist
throughout many different countries as well as a leader of workshops and some apprenticeship measures. Producing CDs with many different symphonic bands shows his ideal of sound, which is based on a pure intonation, brilliant rhythm and balance as well as artistic interpretation.
Ratzek is also president of the WASBE (World
Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles), Section Germany.
