Aloe Blacc (born E. N. Dawkins, III) is an American soul singer, rapper, and musician. His first album, entitled Shine Through, was released by Stones Throw Records in 2006.
He began his career in 1995 as an MC in an indie rap group called Emanon. By the end of the 1990s, Blacc was a "stowaway" on a Lootpack tour in Europe.
His music contains elements of jazz, R&B, soul, and hip hop.
In 2010 Epic Records A&R Jo Charrington confirmed that Blacc had signed with Epic for the UK and Ireland.
He recorded a cover version of the John Legend song "Ordinary People" in Spanish entitled "Gente Ordinaria".
His song "I Need A Dollar" is the intro song for the HBO show How to Make It in America, and was featured as the iTunes Single of the Week and he has performed the song live on December 17, 2010 on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Britain's Later... with Jools Holland, and on Conan on January 20, 2011. His album titled Good Things was released on September 30, 2010.
Aloe Blacc wrote the song "At All" for Lena Meyer-Landrut's album Good News after meeting the German singer backstage at a TV show.
