| Robert Solheim, electronic music composer from Norway. After playing various instruments and singing in various bands until around 1990, he started to create his own musical landscapes.
Under the name CURRENT he has released several critically acclaimed albums between the genres down-tempo and ambient-techno with that typical sound coming from those northern countries of Europe. The first albums were released on Origo Sound, Norwegian label who also had artists like Biosphere, Erik Wøllo, and Eyeman Reel. In 2005 he started releasing his material on his own label. The track 'Ghost Trip' from album 'Communion' (2003) was voted no. 7 of 100 best Em tracks though time and 'Waking up slowly' from album 'underCURRENTs' (2005) was nominated best ambient album and track by Just Plain Folks Music awards.
With the American composer Michael Snyder (Eidetaker) they formed AQUAVIT. Their first and much anticipated work together, Telapatia, have been released in 2008 applauded by both critics and the public. Critics have said. ?This is electronic music for the well travelled?.
In 2007/2008 he composed and produced the music for another musical project, THE OPIATES, together with the German singer Billie Ray Martin. An advance of the work was presented in a concert in the mythical shop Rogue Trade in London in March 2008. With the event, they also released a 10 inch vinyl as well as a digital release with the title Anatomy of a plastic girl. 'Candy Coated Crime' from this album has just been released on Dj Hells latest Gigolo compilation 'Eleven' which he described as 'Die bombe'.
Lately, his musical creativity has turned towards even more dance oriented music between house, techno and dub, and at the moment he is working on a new album to be released under his own name, as well as creating some deep-house inspired sounds with fellow artist and DJ Baldo from Malaga. |
