Austrian techno label Minimal Soul return to the fray with a killer compilation featuring artists either from Detroit, or heavily inspired by it.
While there has been a resurgence of interest over the last few years in what is often considered to be the birthplace of 'true techno',
many of the proponents of the 'nu-Detroit' sound seem to have lost the rawness and energy that was so often integral to those
early productions. So here, original Detroit techno dons Shawn Rudiman & DJ T-1000 kick the genre back into shape again with two
ruff-cut gems that slam, groove and float in all the right places. But that's not all, on the flipside are two more great productions!
Loner.9 (aka Ja'Maul Redmond) might be considered the 'ultra-nu-school', his only previous releases being on last years 'Detroit
techno militia' compilation, and a couple of tracks for the Activ-Analog label, but he shows considerable understanding of the genre
with a polished electro-techno hybrid track. Meanwhile, Wave Effect (aka Carl Grant) was probably better known as being half of 90's
dynamic duo LA Synthesis, who were responsible for the massive 'Agoraphobia' tune amongst others. Anyway, it's good to hear
that he's kept his production chops up to date, as he uses a chunky & bumpy bassline to underpin the simple beat and
melodic structure of 'Brainwasher'.
