Introducing new vocal crush Rap Lisa - whose colloquial melodic verse is a perfect match to the Brooklyn boys refreshing take on warm, soulful space funk & house. Also featuring a searing Greg Paulus cover, this release is poised to set VOB on fire. Lead track ‘Her flower’ instantly takes hold with a swinging groove of rolling sunbeam beats fit to soundtrack balmy Brooklyn nights. Expanding at every turn, the warm colliding synths, deep echoing vocals of VOB’s Jules Born and seductive whispers provide the contours to this serpentine song. ‘Times’ve Changed’ is another sensual ride through VOB’s playful fusion of cut-up vocals, warm house and soulful funk with an added kick while ‘Modify Love’ is a pure cosmic funk jam with soulful samples and an addictive vocal hook. The dreamlike ‘Une Semaine Avec Lui’ is a rooftop sundown affair carried by laidback beats and the floating, honeyed nymph-esque tones of sister in arms Rap Lisa. VOB continue to hypnotise with ‘Dry Ur Eyez’. Stripped back with low-key Latin beats and the muted tones of Greg Paulus’s trumpet solo drifting over the husky drawl of VOB’s Baba Ali’s “dry ur eyez girl", textures build with melodic keys, cosmic sweeps and vibrating bass synths. Greg’s summery cover of ‘Dry Ur Eyez’ is awash with more fluid Latin house grooves, bold rhythms and effective play on the vocal. Baba Ali and Jules Born, aka Voices of Black, started off recording hip-hop mix tapes on Radioshack cassette decks after long high school days in Ramsey, New Jersey. A few years fermenting in Soho and Providence, Rhode Island with label-mate Nico Jaar resulted in two genre-spanning, full-length efforts, ‘Tomorrow’s Today’ and ‘Plastic Dolls’.
