Arram Mantana, Tripmastaz and Roustam are three producers of different ilk, who have joined in this Special Case for their debut EP out soon on Souvenir Records. The A-side somehow manages to retain a melodic, minimal house sensibility that is then thrown into hyperdrive by a looping ragga sample. This one’s useful either for after-hours hypnosis with its bass wobble, or pitched up, peak time apocalypse. ‘Bollyhood’ is the kind of confused tech-house whose faint vocal whisperings are always the most effective earworms the day after. The B-side is no slouch, the shimmering keys of ‘Psy-Baba’ reminiscent of something out of ‘I Dream of Jeannie’ playing off against an oscillating beat until the familiar vocal sample drifts in.
