DXR volume 5 marks the end of the series (for a while) and hopefully the beginning of an era. Featuring some new and exclusive tunes from Jay Riordan, Eoin Brennan, Mick Chillage, Phasen and Rainey; some heavy hitters from 2011's catalogue, a quirky collaboration between Rainey, Jay Riordan and Sam McCune and a couple of late bloomers fomr the 2010 catalogue, DXR 5 represents a watershed in the fortunes and progress of Dublin Xpress.Originally an off shoot of Desy Balmer's Nice & Nasty, DXR's mission was to explore different sounds and break new artists, usually with an Irish connection; however, the label has grown into its own force with Brian Taaffe, Jay Riordan and Enda Rochford building the label up from the grass roots of the Dublin club scene.Dublin Xpress now features a strong Belfast contingent Cricky Lyttle, Rainey, Tony Craig, Mark Rogan, Eoin Brennan, Owen Johnston and Sam McCune which is a nice twist to the fact Nice & Nasty was born in Belfast in 1992/3, moved to Dublin in 1997, set up DXR in the mid 2000's and now DXR is host to an emerging Belfast force.DXR is also home to several UK artists: Vikte, Eight Minus Eight, Ignition Technician, Brolax Bones and and Lex Loofah but its growth and evolution is evident in the fact Phasen (Florida, USA), Nachklangmusik and Curt Cream (Germany), Mike Absolom (Austria), Eteb and Andrew Duke (Canada), Cut Bit Motors and Tomi Chair (Japan) and the wonderful array of international artists on remix duty, e.g. Tcane, John Shima, Carlos Nilmmns, Martin Mueller and Hologram Hookers.Still though the Irish and Dublin massive make up the bulk of DXR activity - Produse, Michael Lovatt aka Elektrodouche, Jay Riordan, Andrew Tiernan, Pauric Freeman, Captain Random, Brian Taaffe, Rob Murphy and more continue to flag the flag high. We are proud that Taaffe now has his own label Space Pig, Peter Sweeney and Stephen Feno Fennell are ripping up Europe as Hypertic and the likes of Al Keegan and Corrugated Tunnel remixing for us. 2011 was a real coming of age for Dublin Xpress and 2012 will be the year that the label steps out of the shadow of Nice & Nasty.
